Files From The Brow Whisperer

Often clients with sparse brows hold on to every single hair they can! But undefined brows aren't doing anyone any favors.  Remember your brows are the frame of your face & when properly shaped can open & lift the entire eye area.
See how much more youthful the eye area looks after waxing? You can actually see her eye, because a great brow shape highlights & features your eyes!  A quick tutorial on filling in her brows with powder helped this client further enhance the lifting appearance of her new shape.

Files From The Brow Whisperer

I love when clients discover me through word of mouth- even better yet from this blog feature!  Regulars say it's one of their favorite segments on Peace Love Lipgloss. This first time client had been frustrated with getting threaded & felt her shape was too rounded. She wanted a cleaner look & had seen my befores & afters on the blog.
I felt like there was a little too much bulk towards the end of the brow. I streamlined both above & below the brow with wax for a more defined classic arch. A quick tutorial on brow powder to help strengthen her new shape had her exclaiming, "This is exactly what I wanted!"  This girl never tires of hearing that!

Must Have Make-Up Monday

Every initial appointment with me for brow shaping ends with a quick tutorial in filling them in. Filling in your brows enhances your existing shape & can give the illusion of fuller brows if yours are sparse. On my vanity at the moment? Brow Guru Anastasia's Beauty Express For Brows and Eyes. Packed into one palette is a setting brow wax, 2 brow powders, 2 highlighting eyeshadows, 5 brow stencils & a brush.

Some brow clients just have light brows in every way- density, texture & color. Filling in the brows is a must in this case, otherwise the face can look very one dimensional. Your brows lift your face & highlight your gorgeous peepers, don't underestimate their importance!

I often say that good brows are a journey- if you've over tweezed, it's unrealistic to get the brows of your dreams in just one visit. Filling in their brows helps the client see the bigger picture & put down the tweezers! I tend to prefer powders over pencil, mainly due to the fact that it looks more natural. Here's a helpful hint, whenever selecting your brow shade in a product go for a universal taupe or blonde. I have jet black brows & I still use the lighter selection in most versions. The goal is to enhance your brows, not look like you've taken a magic marker to them!

Here we were trying out the stencils in the kit. I selected the petite arch brow, since it fit her existing shape the best.

I have to admit, both of us were surprised as how great the stencil turned out!

For comparison: ( left) both the wax & stencil were used with the powder (right) just the powder was used for a softer look. The wax intensifies the shade a bit, but also locks the color into place. Jodi said even after washing her face, the product stayed put!
Here are my brows with nothing in them (sorry it looks like I'm giving the evil eye!)
Ahhh much better! I actually feel naked without my brow powder, cat eye & heaps of mascara! While I have pretty good brows to begin with, filling them in takes them to the next level. You can also see how the blonde shade from this kit still works very naturally with my dark hair. If you feel brow challenged- this kit is the perfect place to start taking your brows to the next level!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Today is a super exciting day for me Beauties as the annual Best of Baltimore Issue of Baltimore Magazine hits the newsstands today & yours truly received the top honor of Best Waxing in it!!! I'm so thrilled, I can't even tell you. Here's a snippet of the article:

" ...the Brow Whisper and, we have to agree, it's a fitting moniker for Madeleine Homes, owner of La Papillon Spa & Gift Boutique. The MAC-trained Homes will work her magic to bring out your brows' natural curves. And if you're looking for more never fear: The bubbly Homes
will put you at ease while she skillfully, um, pulls off every feat of waxing wonder, from a simple lip tidy to the go-for-gusto Brazilian."

Woot Woot!!!

This week I waxed a new client who had met me at an off site event, I now wax the 4 daughters + their mom they loved their brows that much! While not wildly out of control, this client's brows had more bulk in the middle of her brow than in the beginning. I like it a little fuller in the beginning for more umphh {yes that's my technical term!}
All I did was taper & streamline her arch and then cleaned up above & below for such a better looking brow! A quick tutorial for the girls on what a difference brow powder can make in enhancing their shape & off the glammed up girls went!

In Need of the Brow Whisperer

There are some goddesses from the Golden Globes who need my help, it appears. I saw Country Strong over the weekend, and will be honest in that fact that Leighton Meester's brows proved a distraction for me in every scene she was in! I've been noticing that they've been a bit of a hot mess on Gossip Girl lately, but seeing them on the big screen just about sent me over the edge.

{I really liked Country Strong BTW} I'm all for a fuller brow, which she might be trying to achieve by growing them in. However, Leighton's brows are sparse so unless they're properly filled in, they just look untidy. It also doesn't work with her look with her brows, when she usually heavily plays up her eyes...I'm not asking for much- just a tiny, subtle swipe of brow powder! See the difference it can make? And yes, I am fully aware how obsessed I am when it comes to brows- hey it's my passion & livelihood!

Listen, every one can take a bad picture every now & then- I know. I normally find Sofia Vergara drop dead gorgeous! This picture just doesn't do her justice, but her brows made me stop dead in my tracks. It's fine to have soft brows, it looks like Sofia might also have her colorist lighten them as well. However the brow on the left starts lower in, which closes in her eye. I'm not asking for much, just some symmetry & tidying up right under her arch. That would have a overall lifting effect, as well. I really think my talents are needed here, so girleens come see me- I promise I'll squeeze you in!
