About Me

My photo
This make-up artist and esthetician has a (bordering on unhealthy) addiction to all things beauty! No amount of eyeshadows or cream liners will ever be enough! I go giddy for all things girly. Lipgloss might not be able to heal the world, but it can lift a gal's spirits!

OnStar to NKOTBSB

It is amazing how music can take you back. Back to a time of braces & schoolgirl crushes & yearning. Oh how I used to yearn for Mr. Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block! I heard on the radio that Joey is expecting his 3rd child any day now- how does time fly by so quickly?! Our Local Baltimore Area Chevy Dealers were nice enough to send us ChevyGirls on a mission to the NKOTBSB concert over the weekend!

Here I am with fellow Baltimore Chevy Girl Keonte jamming out at the concert! There was so much estrogen in that arena- I can't even tell you! Due to all the screaming, my hearing still hasn't returned to normal- ha ha!

This is how we got there- using OnStar! It's nearly foolproof{even for moi!}! Check it out!

Must Have Make-Up Monday

I'm the queen of eyeliner- I literally feel naked without it. Hourglass Cosmetic's new Script Liquid Liner has such a fine micro tip, you can get as precise as you want with it!

From tiny lines to more elaborate wings, the ultra soft & flexable tip can wiggle in right between lashes for as precise a fine line as you want!

Here it is in a rather classic application on my peepers- I must say it didn't budge!

Even on the shot above with my hand, the liner stayed put through several hand washings!

The tip is so comfortable & pen like with use, you can actually write with it- it's super quick drying! Besides here on my hand, I actually used it in a pinch when I was in the car at the bank- I'm anything if not resourceful!

Hello There Cargo!

So when I'm not beautifying girls at La Papillon Spa, I'm whipping up Bon Bons for Tres Bon Bons on the side! To answer your question, no I don't sleep much! Just last week I made over 15 dozen delish treats!

The Traverse offers tons of storage space so I can zip around town {the onstar feature has been a life saver with this navigationally challenged girl!} dropping off all those yummy confections! Depending on the order I can just adjust the size of the back cargo area.

What's another big help in doing that? Often my hands are full & I'm juggling tons of bags & boxes- I can easily fold down the seats with one hand. In my other SUV it's a full on workout!

The remote access to open the tailgate & one touch closing system is the whipped cream & cherry on top of the sundae, especially when it's gross & raining out! So tell me beauties, what's the biggest item you've ever tried to shove in your car?!?

Hats Off to the Preakness!

So our Local Area Baltimore Chevy Dealers & WBAL TV were kind enough to let the Baltimore Chevy Girls experience Preakness 2011! It's been such a fun project to be a part of. Even though I was born & raised in Baltimore- this was my first time at Preakness. What is it known for? Well, besides horses? Hats girleens! Every where I looked, there were hats galore! These lovely ladies were rocking it out & posed with fellow Chevy Girl Lara in her very own commissioned Maryland themed hat!

Here Lara & I are with WBAL TV's Lisa Robinson (L) & Mindy Basara in the yellow hat. We were interviewed about being Chevy Girls on the Go & on a live tv segment! I love this picture, since you can tell Lara & I don't normally wear hats- as we're struggling to see out of ours! In fact, when I got to see myself in the tv segment- you really could only see my mouth most of the time, as my hat was trying to swallow me whole!
This was probably my most favorite fascinator I saw- the photograph doesn't do it justice. It just worked & though it was very artistic- it didn't overwhelm her. The fascinator was by Christine Moore from Hats in the Belfry.

As luck would have it, I found out that Hats in the Belfry had a booth at Preakness so I got to try on my very own Christine Moore fascinator! If this one had been in black instead of navy I seriously would have scooped it up. But, then again maybe it would be to much to wear to work- what do you think? :)

This creation looked almost like a confection! Doesn't she look like a doppelganger of Kristen Dunst? Regardless she was fluffy & fabulous in that hat!

This woman was working it! Bedecked & bedazzled, this vision in purple said she scored her entire ensemble from JC Penny late the night before- who knew?! Don't worry horse lovers out there, I'm promise I'll post more on the actual race, but you know moi- fashion first!

Chevy Girls

Wow Girleens, I actually had enough technical savvy to upload my first video! Yes, the Flip is so super easy even a seven year old can use it; in fact my niece is better at using most electronics than me at this point. But never the less- I'm stoked! So here it is, I'd like to thank the Academy & The Chevy Girls Team for all of there support in helping me get to this monumental moment!

Laser Genesis

There are times when I truly marvel at the technology when it comes to skincare. How excited am I to be trying Laser Genesis at our Laser & Injectable Event tomorrow? It's the buzz about town as it's supposed to give the skin an airbrushed look. Hmmm I wonder if La Papillon's Diva of Dermatology, Dr. Noelle Sherber would mind doing my whole body! Laser Genesis improves the appearance of wrinkles by gently heating the dermis, corrects & diffuses redness {listen up my rosacea sufferers}, smoothes skin texture & reduces pore size! Can you hear the angels singing? Rejoice! In the skin care market very few products or procedures can claim to have effect on pore size, so I will be anxiously awaiting the results- especially around the nose area! All of these benefits, with absolutely no downtime! I will be taking before & afters, however I will wait a few months to gage results. This is since the treatment stimulates collagen and the effects will take a few months to emerge, but will last for several years. If you're in the Baltimore area & want to experience Laser Genesis yourself- just give La Papillon a call!

Summer Glow

Shimmer has been on my mind as of late, when isn't it? This girl loves a little sparkle & sheen in her life. I had read about Victoria's Secret Eye Glosses in a magazine & wanted to investigate. I picked up their Hypergloss Eye Shimmer in Golden Lights(a soft champagne) & Night Lights (a cool silver). While I was at it I also grabbed their Rockin Body Luminous Perfection Body Cream because it promised that I would look 5 times sexier with a mere application- any lazy girl's dream!
Here are the products in daylight in my kitchen: Golden Lights(top), Night Lights(center), & Rockin Body. The eye glosses are definitely soft enough to wear {sparingly since they are sparkly} on your lids during the daytime.

In bright sunlight you can see the metallic intensity can be played up. At $12 apiece, the eye glosses are definitely worth scooping up. They're great to have in your purse to take your look quickly from day to night. The body cream at $10 didn't necessarily live up to the hype on the package. It definitely smelled delish, like coconuts with a hint of cocoa- but didn't deliver the supermodel figure or shimmery sheen I was hoping for!

Beach Finds

Well I'm back after way too short of a weekend beach getaway with my BFF from Baton Rouge.

Though I've decided Mother Nature needs to be on some antidepressants, we still had an amazing time! Both of us being estheticians, we both showed up with the EXACT same beach hat to shield our face from rays- how in sync is that?

Clients always ask for what's in my beach beauty bag & there is a lot- I won't lie. I even start taking oral antioxidants to weeks prior, as well. {yes I'm that fearful of aging & hyperpigmentation!} But in the make-up department I pare things down since it will be sliding off my face anyway. I applied Hourglass' Aura Lip Stain in Flush to add a pop of color & brighten up my face. It's a lip stain that really stays put & then I apply Water Babies Sunscreen Stick SPF 55 over top because it's important to protect my pucker, too!

This go around I brought Skin Ceuticals' newest launch, their Physical Fusion UV Defense. Those who know me know I have oily skin prone to breakouts & this literally feels like water going on it's so light. It also has a very subtle tint that helps even out my skin tone. I top with a mineral powder & bronzer for added physical sunscreen & I'm out the door! You can't even tell I was at the beach- which I know some would think then what's the point of going to the beach? My point is I'll be one good looking 70 year old down the line!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Whenever this client comes in, I want to do a happy dance. She's super stylish & cute- but most of all her brows shape for me sooo well! Yes that's how much brows mean to me.
Are they not perfection? I want to say her brows are my b*%^&! But I guess that wouldn't be very professional of me, so I guess I'll just let the unretouched picture do the talking!

Lately, I am surprised to say I have been rather unimpressed with gifts with purchase. {Check out the window for pigs flying!} Yes Clinique & Lancome & all the big brands have theirs down, but I'm often uninspired. Though this make up case is not really my style, I'm sure my 7 year old niece will swoon over it!{Bonus points for favorite Aunt will also accrue.} But it's always inside that counts- yes? This latest offer from Beauty.com is jammed packed with deluxe sized samples, just how mama likes them! Stila, Tarte, Urban Decay & It Cosmetics just to name a few of the brands! If you know you need to stock up on your essentials- now's the time to do it as this gift is yours with any $100 purchase.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May is skin cancer awareness month, something near & dear to my heart being an esthetican. We are seeing more & more cases every year on younger clients- so it's so important for me to educate clients on this largely preventable form of cancer. I wanted to address some myths throughout the month. Here's one common misconception: That the higher the skin protection factor (SPF) the better.

Truth:

SPF ratings can be misleading & are soon to be revised by the FDA. The Food & Drug Administration's SPF ratings only apply to protection from UVB rays. A person needs sun protection that offers both chemical & physical blockers in addition to anti-oxidants. Sometimes a high SPF (for example SPF 100) can offer a false sense of security & could possibly introduce more potentially harmful chemicals to the body. It's important to realize that an an SPF of 40 only has about 1% more protection than an SPF of 30. I always advise using an SPF 30 on a daily basis- applying it to face, decollete & tops of hands {hands are a huge indicator of age!} Remember if outside on vacation- you need to reapply at least every 90-120 minutes!

Peace. Love. SPF. M
