About Me

My photo
This make-up artist and esthetician has a (bordering on unhealthy) addiction to all things beauty! No amount of eyeshadows or cream liners will ever be enough! I go giddy for all things girly. Lipgloss might not be able to heal the world, but it can lift a gal's spirits!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Yet another first time client came in to be "fixed." Someone had taken off her poor tails. At my request, she left everything alone for 2 weeks prior to seeing me. You can see where they were lopped off & that they're starting to come back in.
I conservatively waxed above & below.  I always explain that I will leave some hairs, to hope that more will fill in. Great brows are a journey!
The "After!" I showed her how to softly enhance her new shape with powder, which will help her see the big picture & put down those tweezers. Finally she has brows that fit her stunning blue eyes!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

It happens to the best of us...even I can't believe it's almost September! All of a sudden, you realize your brows have gotten out of hand. You know it's a situation when your hubby is helping you get an appointment ;^)
To give more lift, I worked on taking the roundness out of this client's brows. She already has a full face. It actually helped that she had let them grow in, in the before picture you can see previous technicians gave her brows a rounded look ~ not a great fit for a round face shape.  Now her arch is gaining some strength which gives the illusion of lift to the eye area- brow powder will help accentuate that even more. Have you stopped taking care of you this summer? Fall is the perfect time to change that!

Files From The Brow Whisperer

This busy Mom was a first time client who hadn't had her brows shaped in over 5 years- since her daughter was born. She would pluck here & there but had lost a general shape.
With waxing we instantly made the eye area look more groomed & lifted. It always perks up the eyes, giving the illusion of being well rested. Which let's face it, is rarely the case!
A quick tutorial on further enhancing her brows with brow powder & she was off & running- literally!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Another first time client came in this week, with a bit of P.T.B.D. (Post Traumatic Brow Disorder.) As per my request, she left her brows alone for at least 2 weeks before her appointment with me. More hair there is = more canvas I have to work with.  Sometimes I feel like clients pluck on their way to see me!
Since this was her first visit & she had been overwaxed in the past, I was conservative. I left them very full.  There are some patchy spots underneath that we're hoping will grow in. I then gave her a tutorial on brow powder & filling in her brows.
See how brow powder can be your best friend! It keeps your on one the prize - while you're growing them in. It's such a night a day difference + I feel like it helps my new clients put down the tweezers. That's their homework if they want to see great results. Her brows go from okay to amazing with that final step!

Files From The Brow Whisperer

Whenever a new client reaches out to me for an appointment, I ask that they leave their brows alone for at least 2 weeks. I prefer even longer so I have enough to work with in terms of establishing a new shape. This client gave me a great canvas!
This is immediately following waxing while the client is still on my treatment table.  It's a night & day difference after trimming & grooming her brows.
An even better shot looking straight at the eye- see the lift she now has to the eye area. Amazing if I do say so myself;)

Often clients who come to me with petite brows overdo it on filling them in. The stick powder of pencil on every hair the do have & it makes the brows look very 'blocky." It even accentuates the fact that they do not
This visit was this client's first to me & she said she was sensitive.  I used my hard Cirepil wax above & in between the brows.
I still was conservative in my shaping. I left a few hairs at the beginning of the brow, in hopes that we can grow in that area.
I then gave her a tutorial on brow powder, choosing a shade accenting her auburn hair. That way we  extended the tail of brow a bit to make them look more proportioned. I was able to give an arch & show her how to replicate the look at home. This photo is looking at her straight on, as you can see this helps open up the eye & give the illusion of the lift.

Files From the Brow Whisperer - InStyle Edition

Files from the Brow Whisperer has become a popular feature here on the blog. Who doesn't love a good Before & After? I'm happy to report my 'Afters' even caught the eye of InStyle Magazine- one of my absolute favorite magazines & I'm beyond thrilled to announce that La Papillon, as well as yours truly, were featured for Brows in October's issue! So yes, I love InStyle now even a little bit more...
One of my newer clients brought in her mom who was visiting in for me to work my magic on. She had never in over 60 years had them done before! She said, "I never thought I had enough to work with."
I know there are those of you who are scared when you don't have a lot of general growth, you don't want to lose even one little hair. However, subtle grooming can enhance your shape & give it more impact. Plus, look at how much more youthful & lifted the eye area looks! Both mother & daughter hugged me- it made my day!
So if you're in the Baltimore area & haven't visited me yet. The month of October is the month to do it. Tell your friends & let's get this city more gorgeous!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

The way I earned my nickname was from all of the people who came to me after a not so happy previous brow experience at another establishment. I jokingly referred to the condition many of my first clients suffered from as Post Traumatic Brow Experience. I mean it is our face that we're talking about. This client, along with her mother, had been going to someone for years & their brows were getting skinnier & skinnier & further apart.
I explained to this client, as I do with all first time clients- that I need to have something to work with, so put your tweezers down! I know it's hard, but how can I change the shape of your brows when I have no hair to work with? This client said that being that she was Greek, it wouldn't be a problem! Look at that striking brow- I kept the tail full & strong to be conservative on our first visit. She loves her new shape & I was thrilled with the results, too!

When the spring sunshine comes out in full force, we've all been in the car & seen some 'hairy' situations in the clear light of day. This week has been full of pleas for spring cleaning....
I'm here to help. Hello eye lift- we've missed you!

Often people with very blond hair think what's the point of waxing when they're so light?
But cleaning up the brow & enhancing definition is so important when the hair is very fair.
A quick tutorial in applying a soft taupe to enhance her shape & she's off!

Can you believe it's March already, Beauties? How time flies. One of my regulars admittedly got bogged down with with life, a cold & kids' activities & missed her last appointment.
Schedule a standing appointment with whomever you trust with your brows- usually every 4 weeks is a safe bet for putting your best face forward (complete with your fabulously groomed brows!)

This first time client had let her brows fill in (as I requested) until she could get an appointment with moi & I could not wait to get my greedy little hands on them! It''s always great to have as much as possible to work with for initial appointments.
This jewelry designer had struggled to find an esthetician that understood what she was looking for, so we spent some time going over her goals- even though I always explain to first time clients that brows are a journey! Often they need to do their homework by letting some parts grow in & put down those tweezers in between visits. Luckily we were on the same page & she headed off to Vegas for an event looking fabulous.

Files From the Brow Whisperer

You'd be surprised at the amount of people who come to me because they don't have much of a brow. It's not just all about caterpillars;)  This first time client had singed off her brows years ago in a grilling incident(don't laugh it happens more often that you think!) They just never grew back.
I suggested tinting them since they're sparse & a little darker of hair will give what she has more impact.
Here's the brow immediately after tinting & before waxing. I always warn the first day or so brows will look rather dark. Then they will lighter up, it's important to take that in to consideration for the upcoming holidays when scheduling.
And voila! Look how much more brow it looks like she has when they've been groomed & tinted. It's a night & day difference. It helped pull her look together so quickly, which is great since she's a busy mom of 3 little ones who doesn't wear much make-up. See Beauties, brows do make that much of a difference!
