About Me

This make-up artist and esthetician has a (bordering on unhealthy) addiction to all things beauty! No amount of eyeshadows or cream liners will ever be enough! I go giddy for all things girly. Lipgloss might not be able to heal the world, but it can lift a gal's spirits!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Yet another first time client came in to be "fixed." Someone had taken off her poor tails. At my request, she left everything alone for 2 weeks prior to seeing me. You can see where they were lopped off & that they're starting to come back in.
I conservatively waxed above & below.  I always explain that I will leave some hairs, to hope that more will fill in. Great brows are a journey!
The "After!" I showed her how to softly enhance her new shape with powder, which will help her see the big picture & put down those tweezers. Finally she has brows that fit her stunning blue eyes!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

It happens to the best of us...even I can't believe it's almost September! All of a sudden, you realize your brows have gotten out of hand. You know it's a situation when your hubby is helping you get an appointment ;^)
To give more lift, I worked on taking the roundness out of this client's brows. She already has a full face. It actually helped that she had let them grow in, in the before picture you can see previous technicians gave her brows a rounded look ~ not a great fit for a round face shape.  Now her arch is gaining some strength which gives the illusion of lift to the eye area- brow powder will help accentuate that even more. Have you stopped taking care of you this summer? Fall is the perfect time to change that!

Files From The Brow Whisperer

This busy Mom was a first time client who hadn't had her brows shaped in over 5 years- since her daughter was born. She would pluck here & there but had lost a general shape.
With waxing we instantly made the eye area look more groomed & lifted. It always perks up the eyes, giving the illusion of being well rested. Which let's face it, is rarely the case!
A quick tutorial on further enhancing her brows with brow powder & she was off & running- literally!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Another first time client came in this week, with a bit of P.T.B.D. (Post Traumatic Brow Disorder.) As per my request, she left her brows alone for at least 2 weeks before her appointment with me. More hair there is = more canvas I have to work with.  Sometimes I feel like clients pluck on their way to see me!
Since this was her first visit & she had been overwaxed in the past, I was conservative. I left them very full.  There are some patchy spots underneath that we're hoping will grow in. I then gave her a tutorial on brow powder & filling in her brows.
See how brow powder can be your best friend! It keeps your on one the prize - while you're growing them in. It's such a night a day difference + I feel like it helps my new clients put down the tweezers. That's their homework if they want to see great results. Her brows go from okay to amazing with that final step!

Files From The Brow Whisperer

Whenever a new client reaches out to me for an appointment, I ask that they leave their brows alone for at least 2 weeks. I prefer even longer so I have enough to work with in terms of establishing a new shape. This client gave me a great canvas!
This is immediately following waxing while the client is still on my treatment table.  It's a night & day difference after trimming & grooming her brows.
An even better shot looking straight at the eye- see the lift she now has to the eye area. Amazing if I do say so myself;)

Files From the Brow Whisperer

With how hot it is at the moment, everyone is streamlining their make-up. What's the point in putting on a full face, when half of it is sliding off in the humidity!
Whip your brows into shape & your face is instantly pulled together!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

I've been working with some of my clients for over a decade. Nothing makes me happier than when I get new clients via word of mouth. For a while one of my regulars was saying I just had to get my hands on her friend & that she was going to get her in to see me come hell or high water!
This client's brows had a fair amount of cowlicks & some patchiness in them. I spent some time explaining how important brow gel or even brushing hairspray through her brows would be to keeping her shape in place. I had to even out some natural gaps in her brows,  as she hadn't been waxed in years. I streamlined their overall shape to open up & lift her eyes.

Must Have Make-Up Monday: Mally Dream Brow

Often in Files from the Brow Whisperer, you'll see the before & after of just my waxing. For people who have never filled in their brows before, I then give them a tutorial on how doing so enhances their new shape in their initial visit. People with any color hair can benefit from filling in their brows- it subtly pulls everything together & gives a lift to the eye area.
Often I stick with powders, as I feel like they look more natural & are easier for my clients to use versus pencils. That being said, Mally Beauty just launched a product called Ultimate Performance Dream Brow, which since I'd like to think I create dream brows- I wanted to get my hands on!
It's a cream, but very soft in texture, almost a whipped consistency. The brush that it comes with is actually awesome- a spooly on one side to groom into place & then a nice angled brush to fill in on the other side, that is just the right firmness. The product's texture helps keep my brows in place without being crunchy, which as I'm getting older I need as my brows are getting more unruly. This texture is also great for those without a lot of hair, as it will adhere to the skin more effectively than powder. For those who are nervous about using a product with more intensity pigment wise, I always suggest going with a taupe option, which is usually offered in most brands. I have jet black brows & I'm wearing taupe- it's a very universal brow shade. See, you can't even really put your finger on it, but my brows look better- exactly what a brow product should do. So go on & kick your brows up a notch!

Anastasia See or Be Seen Kit

Isn't this new Anastasia kit so summer!  The See or Be Seen limited edition kit includes 2 of their Hydrafull Liglosses in Heiress & Plastic, an Illumin8 Eyeshadow Duo in On Set & their Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel.
As we head into hotter(read humid) weather, I love to pare down the amount of products I use.  I love vivid sheer glosses to instantly brighten up my look. The Hydrafull glosses in this kit just remind me of popsicles! Each gloss retails for $18 each & nearly pay for the entire cost of the kit at $44.
These glosses are incredibly vibrant & have a patent like appearance, without being sticky. They boost some serious staying power, and as they wear off they leave a stain on the lips that rivals most stain only products! Top shade is Heiress, a gorgeous watermelon hue. Bottom shade is Plastic, which reminds me of a Barbie doll pink.
The Illumin8 EyeShadow Duo in On Set features a coppery bronze palette. One shade is a soft rose gold, the other is like a copper penny. These shadows have serious color payoff. I also love that Anastasia shadows boost skincare benefits to the delicate eye area. We show age first around the eye area, yet it's often neglected! I use Anastasia's brow powders often to perfect my brows,  however this is my first foray into using a tinted brow gel.  The Caramel shade in this kit is unusual in that it's metallic.  It definitely tones down my brunette brows, but it's not the right shade for me-I think it's more ideal for blonds. This kit is not for those faint of heart. But for those out there who appreciate serious color payoff, this limited edition summer kit is right up your alley - grab it before it's gone!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

We've all lost a beloved technician at one point in our lives- we move, they retire, babies enter the equation... What do you do when that happens? Word of mouth has been my best champion.  Put it out there on Facebook or Twitter. Better yet, if you see someone with a great haircut or fantastic brows- ask them where they go!!!
This new client had been trying out new people since her esthetician moved to California. She had some horror stories & was quite apprehensive. She ended up reaching out to her old esthetician on Facebook, who recommended moi. We're actually friends who used to work together! It's a small world! Luckily this client had let her brows grow back in after her previous experiences to give me a lot to work with.  If you looking to start fresh- you have to be willing to do that.  I trimmed & streamlined her shape, which 'ta da' - she loved!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

It's the start of summer wedding season & nothing pulls a bride or the bridal party together more than getting your brows done!
For this bridesmaid we didn't do anything crazy, but cleaned up her brows for a more streamlined look.  If you are going to have your make-up professionally done for an event, I always suggest getting your brows waxed at least 3 days prior.  We exfoliate the skin where ever we apply the wax- so you don't want a different skin texture on various areas of the face when getting a make-up application. Hope you have a happy weekend Beauties!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Have you ever been driving along in the car, take a glimpse in the rear view mirror & think, "Holy @#*! I have to get my _____ done!" More often than not, what fills in that blank has something to do with hair- whether it's your brows, roots or a whisker or two. Yes, it's that time of year my friends ~ time for a little Spring Cleaning!
I don't know about you all- but these first few months of 2012 have been quite hectic for me, as well as my clients. I have some regulars who are meticulous about scheduling their appointments, then I have the regulars who call in a panic after a traumatizing rear view mirror situation. If it's been a while since you've had your brows professionally shaped, besides doing spring cleaning at your home- clean up your brows! What a difference 15 minutes of grooming can make when it comes to your face!

Just as cowlicks can happen with the hair on your head, they can happen to your brows. Most of the time- whether we know it or not, we have two slightly asymmetrical brows. The goal with my shaping is always to bring a client's brows into balance.
In the past, when this client has gone other places, her 'tail' or end part of her brow has almost been completely removed. This is probably due to the fact that the technician didn't know what to do with the cowlick. Previously too much was taken off at the beginning of her brow, as well as she has a cowlick there, too. Poor thing had incredibly shrinking brows! I often say brows are a journey- you might not get the brows of your dreams in one visit; as there is often work to be done on the client's end. Namely leaving them alone for a bit, so I can start fresh. In this case I want the client to let as much hair on her 'tail' end grow in as possible. In the meantime I showed her how to strengthen their appearance with brow powder. I tell everyone, patience Grasshoppa- amazing brows will come!

Files From The Brow Whisperer

Often I am referred to clients when they've had a previously poor brow experience. I call these woman survivors of PTBD{Post Traumatic Brow Disorder.} All kidding aside, can you imagine having a hatchet job done on your brows? These woman are coaxed for weeks, if not months by those that love them to get the courage to come to me & try getting their brows waxed again. Such was the case with this woman, who said it had been well over 6 months since she'd let anyone touch her brows. It's so important to get a feel for each client's lifestyle & personality when shaped their brows- seriously! I have glam girls, natural girls & in between- each brow style varies in term of upkeep.
From what this client told me, she likes a pretty natural, full brow. Before coming to see me, she said someone had taken off half of her brow. It took several minutes of talking with her to get her comfortable enough to lie down & let me work my magic. Most of the time I know what I want to do to a client the moment they walk into my studio & I see their eye shape- but listening to their expectations of maintenance sometimes modifies that. I trimmed this client's brows to start, then conservatively waxed both above & beneath the brow. A night & day difference from before, but still something she was comfortable with. She left with a smile on her face from trusting in me, which in turn made me smile.

I loooovvveee first time waxing clients! As soon as they step into my treatment room, I get to work on a blank canvas & create their shape. This young teen already had strikingly fabulous brows. It was just up to me to enhance them. For me it's like unearthing buried treasure.
She & I were doing a happy dance with this 'after' shot. We left her brows strong & clean. With a stunning head of long, curly dark hair her new brows were the perfect compliment to her features! Have a great weekend girleens!

Busy moms out there I promise you- 10 minutes with moi or your favorite brow expert is worth every precious second. It pulls you together & gives you a refreshed, groomed appearance.

From cleaning up below & above the brow, I created a gentle arch. This mom's eyes are instantly lifted. This gives the illusion of looking well rested, when let's be honest- most moms aren't!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

A lot of first time blond waxing clients feel that since they're fair, that waxing won't make that much of a difference. That their hair is so pale, that people can't see it anyway. That's often the exact reason I stress that their brows need to be defined- to show up!
This client's brows were very rounded in shape, I streamlined them in an attempt to make them less so. Waxing above was also a must to grab all of those baby blond fuzzies! It looks like an entirely different brow! What a difference!

Oh how I love "Brow Virgins" my Beauties. Clients who have never gotten their brows done, seriously -never! It's a blank canvas for moi to get my hands on! As you can see towards the ends of this client's brows, they are rather featherly & sparse.

What a difference a little waxing can make! Compared to the picture above, look how much stronger her 'tail' looks with some grooming. This is often a concern with those with rather weak brows. But I promise girleens, it pulls them together by establishing your shape!

A quick tutorial on softly filling in her brows to give them a little bit of definition & she was on her way to beginning the school year with a great, confident start!

So at first sight, these brows don't look so out of whack. I would say that they are out of balance, though. This bride to be has what I call a semi colon brow shape, where there's too much bulk or almost a 'bulb' at the beginning of the brow. This shape also can make the 'tail' of the brow look very sparse.
A simple slimming at the beginning of the brow helps the brow have a more streamlined appearance. Subtle, but it opens her eyes & strengthens the appearance of the ending 'tail.' Her eyes will look lifted & lovely on her big day. So worth it!

My client has the most amazing eyes, they are a piercing gray blue. Baby blonde hairs, though very subtle, often distract from their awesomeness. I see this in a lot of my fairer clients, they often forget what a difference waxing can make on the 'baby fuzz.' Waxing also helps your make-up go on smoother & easier.

I always leave her brows full & gently shaped, as she lives far away & can't get in as often as she would like to see me due to her busy schedule. It would be a struggle for her to keep up with an extreme arch at home. Her brows just needed a little grooming to highlight those gorgois peepers!
