About Me

My photo
This make-up artist and esthetician has a (bordering on unhealthy) addiction to all things beauty! No amount of eyeshadows or cream liners will ever be enough! I go giddy for all things girly. Lipgloss might not be able to heal the world, but it can lift a gal's spirits!

Files From the Brow Whisperer

Most clients have to fill in the tail end of their brows with pencil or powder to give it a little more presence. With this client, it was the exact opposite- in fact the tail was closing in her eye a bit, making them look a little droopy.
By balancing out the proportions of her brows- her face had a whole new lease on life & her eyes looked more lifted. She instantly appeared more awake & refreshed. Who doesn't want to look like they've had more sleep!

The way I earned my nickname was from all of the people who came to me after a not so happy previous brow experience at another establishment. I jokingly referred to the condition many of my first clients suffered from as Post Traumatic Brow Experience. I mean it is our face that we're talking about. This client, along with her mother, had been going to someone for years & their brows were getting skinnier & skinnier & further apart.
I explained to this client, as I do with all first time clients- that I need to have something to work with, so put your tweezers down! I know it's hard, but how can I change the shape of your brows when I have no hair to work with? This client said that being that she was Greek, it wouldn't be a problem! Look at that striking brow- I kept the tail full & strong to be conservative on our first visit. She loves her new shape & I was thrilled with the results, too!

Often people with very blond hair think what's the point of waxing when they're so light?
But cleaning up the brow & enhancing definition is so important when the hair is very fair.
A quick tutorial in applying a soft taupe to enhance her shape & she's off!

Cleaning up the brows & having them professionally shaped can have a huge anti-aging effect on your appearance!
It can make the eye look more open & lifted. It can help soften the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles- not to mention make you look well rested! Who doesn't love such great results in almost an instant?

You'd be surprised at the amount of people who come to me because they don't have much of a brow. It's not just all about caterpillars;)  This first time client had singed off her brows years ago in a grilling incident(don't laugh it happens more often that you think!) They just never grew back.
I suggested tinting them since they're sparse & a little darker of hair will give what she has more impact.
Here's the brow immediately after tinting & before waxing. I always warn the first day or so brows will look rather dark. Then they will lighter up, it's important to take that in to consideration for the upcoming holidays when scheduling.
And voila! Look how much more brow it looks like she has when they've been groomed & tinted. It's a night & day difference. It helped pull her look together so quickly, which is great since she's a busy mom of 3 little ones who doesn't wear much make-up. See Beauties, brows do make that much of a difference!

I always joke to my clients that it takes a village to be a female. Seriously- there's so much work involved. Multiply that times 10 when you're a bride! I always suggest brides get waxed the Wednesday before their Saturday nuptials. This ensures any redness goes down & that on the big day make-up can be applied evenly above the brows, since that area has been exfoliated.
My client let her brows really grow in so that I could have a lot to work with. Her brows naturally have a rounded curve that she likes me to streamline. Her tails also tend to be rather sparse, so she's a faithful user of Billion Dollar Brow's Brow Boost. By carefully shaping above the brow in this case, I'm able to give her more of the arch she craves. Her brows were gorgeous & she was a stunning bride.  I was honored to do her bridal make-up + attend the big day!

Often clients with sparse brows hold on to every single hair they can! But undefined brows aren't doing anyone any favors.  Remember your brows are the frame of your face & when properly shaped can open & lift the entire eye area.
See how much more youthful the eye area looks after waxing? You can actually see her eye, because a great brow shape highlights & features your eyes!  A quick tutorial on filling in her brows with powder helped this client further enhance the lifting appearance of her new shape.

It's that time of year. When summer comes to a close & droves of clients (new & old) come in to get their brows done before heading back to school. Whether high school or college, every one wants to put their best face forward for the first day of classes! This was a new client who had purposefully let her brows grow in a bit, as she had felt her previous esthetician had made them too skinny.  That is the perfect thing to do for me to have as much as possible to work with in terms of creating a shape.
I made sure to be conservative in what I took off, because she had worked hard to grow them in. I also streamlined them a bit above, as my client had expressed that she felt her brows were too round in our consult prior to the waxing. She was thrilled & though dreading heading back to high school on Monday, will at least be rocking some amazing brows!

We've all lost a beloved technician at one point in our lives- we move, they retire, babies enter the equation... What do you do when that happens? Word of mouth has been my best champion.  Put it out there on Facebook or Twitter. Better yet, if you see someone with a great haircut or fantastic brows- ask them where they go!!!
This new client had been trying out new people since her esthetician moved to California. She had some horror stories & was quite apprehensive. She ended up reaching out to her old esthetician on Facebook, who recommended moi. We're actually friends who used to work together! It's a small world! Luckily this client had let her brows grow back in after her previous experiences to give me a lot to work with.  If you looking to start fresh- you have to be willing to do that.  I trimmed & streamlined her shape, which 'ta da' - she loved!

Oh you moms out there, how you put yourselves last! Taking care to make sure your family is always pulled together, but often putting yourselves last. To say this clients brows were overdue would be a bit of an understatement & she knew it!
First off a trim was in order. Even if you can't get in to see your esthetician every 3 weeks, a conservative trim keeps the illusion of your brows being groomed & in place. Then wax applied both below & above the brow strengthened and established her shape. I often have people with sparse brows or fair hair express reservation at getting their brows waxed, but as you can see in this "after" picture her brows look fuller since they are now defined. What a difference 5 minutes can make in your appearance if you make yourself take that time for yourself! Speaking of wanting to see a difference in your skin, check out tomorrow's post from Dr. Noelle Sherber. It will be her very first 'Ask the Derm Day' post & it focuses on hyperpigmentation!

(L) Before (R) Immediately After
A lot of times clients who have very light hair or not a lot of brows are hesitant to have them shaped. Fear not fair maidens! Waxing helps define whatever shape you have. Always talk with your technician about what you want & don't want, often I am very conservative & just grooming the strays- which still can make a big difference. It removes the little peach fuzz, so the skin looks younger and smoother and make-up is more easily applied. When you go for a professional waxing, your technician can give the illusion of a fuller brow- oh yes we have ways! It always gives a more lifted look to the brow bone, I swear an expert brow shaping can take ten years of the look of your face!
