Golden Globes: Get The Look

I can't believe it's been close to 15 years since I first spotted Jessica Alba in Never Been Kissed!  This business woman & mom still manages to be a bombshell quite nicely, don't you think? She looked like a screen siren from Hollywood eras past at the Golden Globes. Here's how you can get her look.

On Sunday’s red carpet Jessica Alba looked stunning in tangerine. The glamorous mother of two, a presenter at the awards ceremony, wore a gorgeous peach-colored gown by Oscar de la Renta. “The dress was the inspiration,” says makeup artist Lauren Andersen. “I loved the contrast between her glowing skin and the matte orange lip. It’s an almost tropical pop of color that’s not an exact match for the dress but close.”

Skin: Lauren prepped the skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. She then used Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Warm under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose and fanned the product out in the center of the forehead to create dimension. She finished the skin step with the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light applied all over to create a golden, subtle warmth. “It’s a soft, refined shimmer that’s glowy,” says Lauren.

Cheeks: She used the bronze shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and followed with the blush shade on the apples of the cheeks.

Eyes: Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso was first applied to the outer corners of the eyes and then smudged it with a brush. Lauren then applied Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer in the crease of the eyes and the gold shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune on the lids. Lashes were treated to several coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. She finished up by amplifying the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

Lips: Finally, Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera, a vibrant tangerine shade, was applied to the lips. The velvety matte color delivers richly pigmented and long-lasting coverage for up to 14 hours.

Golden Globes: Get The Look

Ahhh that magical time of the year has begun Beauties- awards season! I heart all things Golden Globes, because celebs look like they're actually having fun! I'm sure the free flowing cocktails help.  My favorite funny girls, who I've dubbed Hollywood's new it couple- Amy Poehler & Tina Fey rocked it out. I wish they had had more air time.  When it comes to glamour, it's so hard to narrow down my favorite picks for hair & make-up.  One of my picks? The New Girl's Zooey Deschanel, who looked looked retro glam & flawless, as always. Here's how she got glam. Celebrity make-up artist Jorjee Douglas used the following Tarte products:

Face:

• She prepped Zooey's skin the night before with tarte's pure maracuja oil to keep her skin soft and glowy.
• To even out her complexion and ensure her foundation lasted she applied BB tinted treatment primer in fair.
• Next, she blended tarte’s maracuja miracle 12-hr foundation to add extra radiance to her complexion. To conceal any uneven skin she used tarte’s maracuja creaseless concealer underneath her eyes. 
• She added a pop of color with tarte's Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in frisky to the apples of her cheeks.
• For a touch of shimmer, she applied maracuja blush & glow brightening lumiziner and cheek tint in candlelight to the tops of her cheekbones and set her t-zone with a light dusting of Amazonian clay finishing powder.

Eyes:

• For a strong and defined brow, she used a mixture of tarte's Amazonian clay waterproof brow pencil in taupe and medium brown.
• To make Zooey’s blue eyes pop, she started by blending the bronze shadows from tarte's beauty & the box Amazonian clay eyeshadow quad in “in the buff” all over her lids.
• To create a cat-eye shape, she drew tarte's multiplEYE lash enhancing liquid liner over her top lashline, with a dip at the outer corner.
• Inspired by Twiggy's lashes, she painted on tiny lashes underneath her bottom lashes with the precise tip of multiplEYE lash enhancing liquid liner. 
• She finished by applying two coats of lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 mascara to add major volume and drama to her lashes.
  
  Lips:
• Jorjee patted tarte's glamazon pure performance 12-hour lipstick in bold over Zooey’s lips with her fingers to create a light stain and then went over it with LipSurgence lip luster in delighted to add extra shine.

In Need of the Brow Whisperer

There are some goddesses from the Golden Globes who need my help, it appears. I saw Country Strong over the weekend, and will be honest in that fact that Leighton Meester's brows proved a distraction for me in every scene she was in! I've been noticing that they've been a bit of a hot mess on Gossip Girl lately, but seeing them on the big screen just about sent me over the edge.

{I really liked Country Strong BTW} I'm all for a fuller brow, which she might be trying to achieve by growing them in. However, Leighton's brows are sparse so unless they're properly filled in, they just look untidy. It also doesn't work with her look with her brows, when she usually heavily plays up her eyes...I'm not asking for much- just a tiny, subtle swipe of brow powder! See the difference it can make? And yes, I am fully aware how obsessed I am when it comes to brows- hey it's my passion & livelihood!

Listen, every one can take a bad picture every now & then- I know. I normally find Sofia Vergara drop dead gorgeous! This picture just doesn't do her justice, but her brows made me stop dead in my tracks. It's fine to have soft brows, it looks like Sofia might also have her colorist lighten them as well. However the brow on the left starts lower in, which closes in her eye. I'm not asking for much, just some symmetry & tidying up right under her arch. That would have a overall lifting effect, as well. I really think my talents are needed here, so girleens come see me- I promise I'll squeeze you in!

Golden Globes Gorgeousness

Looking good is the best revenge- yes? Eva Longoria looked amazing and quite screen siren chic in this classic little black dress showing off all of her curves. Seriously, last night all of America must have thought "what was Tony Parker thinking?"
I don't know many who could pull this look off, but January Jones did. She balanced the daring nature of this Versace dress with hair reminiscent of a starlet from the 1950's.

Jennifer Lopez went for vintage glam & nailed it. Though I probably will like her dress without her sheer capelet, I love how she always try to add something unexpected.

I have to hand it to Claire Daines when it comes to stunning simplicity. She radiates elegance, always goes for streamlined classic gowns- never fussy fashion.
Honorable mentions go to:

Mandy Moore & Heather Morris. As an esthetician, I've always loved Mandy Moore's luminous dewy skin. I feel like she's been hiding out since she married Ryan Adams, so I loved seeing her in a vivid blue dress that complimented her peaches & cream complexion. Honestly ever since I saw the Brittney/Britney episode of Glee, Heather Morris has gone up in my book. What talent. She went for old Hollywood glamour-perfection. On my not so favorites list when it came to dresses? Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway & Natalie Portman. When it came to hair, what were Annette Benning & Scarlett Johansson thinking?!?! So tell me beauties, who were your picks for best & worst dressed?
