About Me

My photo
This make-up artist and esthetician has a (bordering on unhealthy) addiction to all things beauty! No amount of eyeshadows or cream liners will ever be enough! I go giddy for all things girly. Lipgloss might not be able to heal the world, but it can lift a gal's spirits!

MTV Premiere Night

Though I'm on vacation, it was still mandatory to be home from dinner in time for MTV premiere night! I was so curious as to Kristen Cavalleri's entrance on The Hills. She's been promoted as the new villain- whatever will Spencer do this season (maybe try to become a cowboy- what's with the hat & boots?)

Yeah, I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her. She certainly lacks the class and quiet elegance that Lauren Conrad exudes. On the first episode I was shocked at how aggressive she was to all of the girls. It begs the question is MTV pushing her to literally stir things up?

Seriously?!?!? How is the tool of all tools Justin Bobby( nice pants loser) still on this show? Kristen is showing the caliber of her character by going after anything that will make headlines. She should bathe in Listerine after hanging with him! Again it seems quite transparent, that Kristen's out to ruffle feathers. Quite some awkward moments I'm sure will be unveiled this season, and I'll be there for all of them!

Seriously, were other girls as giddy as I was for the back to back premieres? I really became addicted to The City last season. Being an East Coast girl that travels to NYC often for work- I guess I feel like I can relate to the show more.

I love Whitney Port. So classy- you can actually believe that she and LC became friends(& hopefully remain so!) She's hard working and actually seems like a good person, one you would want as a friend. The sad thing about this show is how it portrays the majority of the other women in the cast all their early 20's- all out for themselves. Seriously with friends like these, who needs enemies?

Repeat Offender

How many hair styling products and tools do I have to buy to realize that the good Lord above does not want me to have sexy, tousled beachy waves?!?! Oh how I yearn for Gisele's hair! Alas, mine is straight and fine. I'm not complaining, I have been blessed with a lot of beautiful brunette hair- it's just that I can never switch things up. I admit it, I am hair challenged. Friends of mine are pure genius with theirs- styled just so, but nope not me. My latest acquisition was Revlon's wave maker. I told myself, this time it would be different- like any addict. But besides it weighing a ton and feeling like I was awkwardly maneuvering a waffle pan thru my hair, I was left with 80's style crimping, not a soft curl in sight. Gah- what's a girl to do? What are my beauties' favorite tips and tricks and products for your hair?

This Monday's Must Haves

Greetings from Palm Beach my beauties! At the last minute I decided to join BFFBR (Best Friend Forever Baton Rouge) and meet up with her for a long weekend. It was a rare instance where she would be able to be away from her 2 beautiful babies & actually get to have some girl time with me! Though I hate flying, after the month I've had (complete with dental surgery this past Friday) I realized I needed to get out of town! I grabbed my trusty Michael Kors oversized glasses and headed to the airport.

Though I love being by the water, I seriously shun the sun. Where I once worshipped it, now I know it's no friend to my face. This serum actually boosts your own skin's SPF factor, while also being chock full of antioxidants. It's a must for any vacation I take.

The last thing I do is bread myself like a chicken cutlet in this SPF 30 mineral powder. Seriously I apply the serum, then my Jan Marini SPF 30, then complete the batter process with the powder! So what if I tend to look like a mime in group vacation photos- I know I will be a good looking 50 year old! I'm sure I'll also do some serious retail therapy- so stay tuned. Here I come Worth Avenue!

Repeat Offender

Has this ever happened to you my beauties? I needed some retail therapy- September has been one of those months were everything goes wrong. Let's face it, make-up makes everything better. And of course I'm always scouting the best new products for my favorite girleens... however, what did I notice when I got home? A) I have an addiction. B) I tend to rebuy all of the same shades! My favorite shade Jasper(c) from True Minerals drove me to pick up similar versions from Lorac(l) and Urban Decay(r).

The pattern presented itself and became painfully clear in my endless quest for the perfect smokey eye, as well. My beloved Lorac Dreamy(r) has led me to buy a loose pan from Trish McEvoy(c) & a nice gunmetal from Urban Decay(l) to round out the greys.

But no where is it more apparent, than in my never ending nude lipgloss collection. I blame Sarah Michelle Gellar for first starting my obsession with her great gloss during her Buffy the Vampire days. No, there is not much that makes this girl giddier than gloss! One day though I seriously am going to tally the amount of all the make-up I have, maybe that will be the first step in recovery. As for now, at least I can say I'm consistent!

Prepping Prep School 101

One of my dear friends, PrepSchool101, popped by the spa the other day for me to prep her for a photo shoot. PrepSchool is a hybrid of Martha Stewart+Julia Childs+Colin Cowie(entertaining wise, not man wise!) She does everything flawlessly, including being a friend. She's got a huge new adventure in the works career wise, so the shoot was for her website launch & I was happy to help!

With not a stitch of make-up on, she's still radiant (due in part to her Kate Somerville skincare!)

I'm a little bit of a mad scientist when in make-up artist mode... I mix & blend & make a mess!

Voila! Her fresh faced, classic look. We wanted to go for timeless appeal, nothing too trendy & both of us couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Off she went to meet my fabulous photographer friend Jubilee Photography at Ladew Gardens. Can't wait to see the professional shots- I'll post them when I get them!

This Glambassador's Skin Care Regimen

Now don't judge moi ,my beauties! I was inspired by another recent post to list my current favorites in terms of my skincare regimen. Yes I know it might be more than most, but remember it's my passion & my profession!
AM Regimen:
1) Jan Marini Bioglycolic Milky Cleanser (no suds, no smell- but it works!)
2) Skin Ceuticals Hydrating B5 mixed with Skin Ceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel
3) Wei East Eyes Alive Eye Cream
4) Jan Marini Antioxidant SPF 30

PM Regimen:
1) Same Jan Marini Cleanser from AM
2) Second cleanse with Kate Somerville Purifying Cleanser
3) Spot treat anything I've extracted after shower with Biologique Rechcher Lotion P50
4)Same Skin Ceuticals Serum Mix from AM
5)Jan Marini C Esta Serum
6)Jan Marini Bioclear Serum
7) Kate Somerville Deep Tissue Repair
8) IS Clinical Eye Cream ( I'm always trying new eye creams!)

Horrified? Overwhelmed? I hope not. When you find a system that works for you, your concerns and your skin type, you really can breeze through it. Seeing results will motivate you. Think of your regimen in comparison to the basic 5 food groups...you need to cleanse, exfoliate(no apricot scrub doesn't count), hydrate, protect as well as include an eye cream ( yes my girls you need a separate eye cream!) What are your absolute skincare essentials?!

Make-up Must Have Monday

In Memoriam 1970-2010

Alas the magic has gone from Prescriptives. Estee Lauder has decided to cease production on the line January 2010. Prescriptives was the first to integrate optical diffusers into its line of Magic make-up giving the illusion of more flawless skin.

Prescriptives also is known for pioneering custom blend cosmetics, including foundations such as the cult favorite Virtual Skin. Discover it now and with any foundation purchase of $32.50 get a free 5 piece gift online.

Classic Calyx takes me back to memories of high school with its notes of grapefruit and mandarin blended with passion fruit, mango, papaya and guava. Products will be available in stores and online until they sell out. I was lucky to grab my favorite limited edition shadow in lemondrop (alright 3) and try out the custom blend lipgloss that everyone raves about. Scoop up your favorites while you can! Rest in Peace.

Truly Brilliant

I love my True Minerals Foundation- I love the coverage, its convenient compact, and the benefit of the antioxidant idebenone that it's infused with. Now the brilliant innovators are launching Interference Color Rich Shadow. The press release announces the arrival of seven anti-aging, rich pigments that deliver long lasting finish. What's even better? The shadows feature Dermaxl, a ceramide complex clinically proven to restore moisture loss and reduce crepey eyelids as a protective shield of powerful antioxidants inhibits free-radical (sun, smoke, stress...) interference. Our eyes are where we show signs of aging first, so that's Truly brilliant!

Eat Pray Love

Oh happy day! To say that I adore Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat Love Pray would be an understatement. It's become a friend to me, I turn to it for comfort. It's been reread several times, dogeared & highlighted. Now I've discovered it will be made into a movie! Hopefully the magic from the book will translate to film.

Julia Roberts has already begun filming the lead role in Italy. After seeing the author on Oprah and getting a sense of her amazing energy, it's hard to imagine anyone replicating that. Julia definitely has that earthy vibe & she loves yoga, so who knows? Have any of my beauties read this beloved book? Who would you have cast for Gilbert's role?

Make-up Must Have Monday

My beauties know I love anything with a crown or fleur de lis on it! Smashbox's fall launch is called Reign. It's quite girly & fabulous. They have built their brand on their cream liners & you guys know how I love me some liner! This limited edition palette includes classic black & brown, then updates the options with a gold & bronze version for the season.

This blush is very subtle, it imparts more of an all over glow to the skin. It's great to add some luminousity as your summer tan is fading. (I said yours, not mine- I'm pale year round!)

Of course what make-up ensemble would be complete without my blog namesake lipgloss?! Smashbox glosses are super shiny, without being tacky or sticky. A must for my glosses which this limited edition features? Brush applicators which ensure precision! So go grab some while you can & let it reign!

Hard Times for Hard Candy

Hard Candy, the line that pioneered nail polish colors inspired by car paint and was launched out of its founder's kitchen will be making a bold move. All current products have been discontinued and come fall will be rebranded at new lower prices.

Even more surprising is that the relaunched brand will be carried exclusively at WalMart. I'm curious to see the revamped brand when it debuts and whether it will be a success in its new target market. What do my beauties think of this move? Smart or Stupid?

Labor Day Lounging

The only upset in this very relaxing weekend was when my beloved Andy Roddick was defeated early on in the U.S Open by John Eisner. I will admit Eisner played the match of his career (thus far), but to me Andy Roddick = U. S. Open.

After drowning my sorrows with a couple of cocktails at the neighborhood cookout, I returned to join my youngest in some serious napping while continuing to watch the matches.

See, I had this weekend perfectly planned. My eldest Rex (rough life) was my inspiration to catch up on my beauty rest. This worked out perfectly since my face was peeling from my Skin Medica Vitalize peel. All in all I give my lazy holiday weekend two thumbs up!

PS- Stay tuned for the before, during & after photos from my peel!

Make-up Must Have Monday

When make-up artists go to fill their professional kits at MAC, we hear angels singing. It never gets old. I want to drape myself over the make-up displays to show my love. Here's Partner in Crime petting the eyeshadow collection!

Here's MAC make-up artist Laura who helped our beauty team pull products. We become giddy & unmanageable when surrounded by product- so thanks for putting up with us! I started early on in my career as a MAC make-up artist, their products are always reliable for color intensity and range.

Here's what I picked up: Paint Pots in Painterly & Blackground, Shadows in Unbasic White, Pink Freeze, and Smoke & Diamonds, Pearlglide Eye Liner in Black Russian, Molasses, & Rave( a great purple I'll be sporting at Ravens games!) Of the entire purchase, Painterly is my favorite product. You can use it as a base to pop shadows or on its own to even out discoloration of the eyelid. Make-up makes me so happy! What's your favorite MAC product?

Infatuation

Anyone who knows moi, knows that I often lament that the one thing I want bigger on my body are my lips! Perfect nude glossy lips have been my life's passion! (or part of it & is that sad?) Fusion Beauty was the pioneer in plumping technology in the marketplace with their LipFusion gloss. Now they're back with a bang with the launch of their new Infatuation Liquid Shine Multi-Action Lip Fattener. Adding to the previous component of marine filling spheres will be Amplifat technology derived from sea foam for lasting lip fullness and firmness. Sign me up!

Peace. Love. I really love Lipgloss. M

Pearls of Wisdom

Partner in Crime discovered these little gems or shall I say pearls! Think of an old school ice pack, then modernize it with malleable soft beads that can be chilled or heated. That's the Thera Pearl. They'll be perfect for our injectables night in October!

This is genius! Any of my beauties who suffer from migraines or extreme puffiness in the eye area should have one of these eye packs in their refrigerator at all times!

I sleep with an ice pack every night due to my back. Is it sad that I'm excited to get one of these? Created by a physician, Thera Pearl products conform to whatever you're applying them to without the drippy mess. So pretty they're almost a piece of art, but truly a pearl of wisdom!

Luminesse

Oh how I wanted to love thee Luminesse! Your promise of one touch air brushing had me at hello. Alas it wasn't meant to be. While this unit was attractive and easy to turn on & off, there was no option to adjust the intensity of the compressor (which propels the foundation.)

In our professional system from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (yes they had me at the name!) the unit has an option for adjusting the force of the spray. There is a very fine line on the Luminesse unit between not spraying anything on your face & planting a big dollop of pigment on your cheek. Imagine you're spray painting something & you put too much paint in one spot... As a make-up artist I spend a good amount of time on my face in the morning. This airbrush added steps, not simplified them. Proper care & maintenance of the actual airbrush gun is important for new users or performance will be affected. So though I'll continue to airbrush clients for their big day or special events, I'll stick to swiping on my beloved True Minerals foundation in my mad dash out the door in the A.M! Luminesse $169

Buddies, Bikinis, & Bubbly

Today my beauties, the La Papillon beauty team will be getting our clients ready for the holiday weekend! Before every major holiday, droves of gals come in to be groomed! Though waxing is never fun, we try our best to make it as quick as painless as possible. It helps to get on a schedule & come with a friend who helps you stick to your schedule. I always say you might not love me during your waxing service(of course you will), but you'll love me after!
