About Me

My photo
This make-up artist and esthetician has a (bordering on unhealthy) addiction to all things beauty! No amount of eyeshadows or cream liners will ever be enough! I go giddy for all things girly. Lipgloss might not be able to heal the world, but it can lift a gal's spirits!

Can't Stop Myself!

Oh my beauties I am only human. Yes I know I have a beauty boutique and time and time again I am reminded by my chiropractor that the reason my shoulders and back are out of whack may be due to the 20 lbs+ of lipgloss I carry in my purse. I cannot help it. I have a problem. I lie to myself saying I do it for you all, to remain a beauty authority- but I could not stop even if I wanted to. Neiman Marcus Beauty Event going on now( I will see you there!)

I'll show(or is it shoe?) you agressive!

Um I just had to giggle when I checked my email. I just got my weekly blast from Bergdorf Goodman with the title "The Aggressive Black Shoe." What does that mean? Will these shoes hurt so much that I will want to kick someone? Or will it be due to the bill? I think just trying to get into these Diors would leave me exhausted!

Regardless I worship at the alter of Louboutin!

A slightly S&M approach to the Jimmy Choo mary-jane classic!

Again after a couple of cocktails, I fear I would wake up with these slightly complicated heels from Stuart Weitzman still on...It boggles my mind that people in NYC can walk block after block in heels like this. Is there a class I can take? I would walk 12 feet and slip right back into my classic Tory Burch ballet flats. Peace. Love. Lipgloss. M

Monogram Me!

So as I sit here watching The Hills, I am surfing the net & discovered this fab site wonderful graffiti. I have never considered myself preppy, I rarely wear anything but black, but I do love monograms! It just takes everything up a notch!
Love these labels on wine bottles at a wedding.

All I'm saying is it's probably a good thing that my sister isn't telling anyone my soon to be niece's name (due to debut June 25th) Otherwise I don't know if I could stop myself!

Imagine this as your headboard! Bananas!

Now I just need to find where I'm going to put one in my house.

Oh Honey(bell)!

So God Bless my Grandpop who loves to send his grandkids treats from Florida! Problem is(I swear I am not complaining...)is that the man sends bushells of fruit to little old moi. I'm talking dragging in the box from the frontstep, trying to make orange pie, etc....The winter months are jammed packed with shipments of oranges & grapefruits. I have become quite popular with my neighbors ( next door Mandy keeps asking if he will adopt her.)

But the piece de la resistance is my beloved Honeybell. Honeybells are incredibly delicious hybrids of a tangerine and grapefruit- they are amazing. While I dole out large quantities of everything else- I hoard this sweet beauties. Seriously, one is lucky to get a slice of one. These fruit are only produced 4 weeks out of the year and I was fraught with worry that they would start to go bad since I have been rationing them. The solution? Honey Belltinis- which shall be consumed tonight while savoring the fashions of Oscar night. So today has been pretty perfect- catching up on the DVR whilst still in my pj's(a goal on most Sundays) I even managed to lure my favorite cousin, T over with Panera for lunch! So cheers to Oscar nite! Tonight's dinner will be leftovers from lastnite's gabfest with Southern Miss M. Fab-u-lous. Happy Day!

Say it ain't so Domino!

I am sitting here tonight exhausted, yet lovingly savoring each and every last page of my March Domino magazine- why? Because this is the last issue of the publication. sigh.
The magazine has been a favorite of mine for approachable style ideas to update home & life. Myself, though quite a colorful character, can tend to be rather boring in terms of home decor. Domino helped me step outside of my comfort zone with a brazen piece here and there.

I have decided when I really love a magazine, that I won't subscribe to it. I send the BFFBR(Best Friend Forever Baton Rouge) magazines for the holidays since she has two young babies & I want her to have some adult time. However, I fear it's a jinx! First my beloved Martha Stewart publication, Blueprint was canceled & now this!( both holiday gifts)

To top it off my favorite local read Paperdoll Magazine(this is by no means because the boutique was written up in it-I swear, I loved it long before!) has suspended publication. Quel Horror! What's a girl to do?

Luckily I snatched Domino's Book of Decorating up to keep me warm during off season of Top Design. Fare thee well Domino. Peace. Love. Lipgloss. M

Confessions of a Movie Adict

Tonight I went with Movie Girl to see the much anticipated Confessions of a Shopaholic. Isla Fisher was adorable & the movie was cute- but nothing to write home about. What was over the top? The fashions of course- would one expect anything less from Patricia Fields?
Haven't we all gone a tad overboard with the thrill of the sale!

Patricia Fields made her name outfitting SJP in Sex in the City

Though there were pieces here and there in S&TC that sparked a craze- let's face it most only Carrie Bradshaw could pull off!

Patricia now is costume designer on the hysterical series Ugly Betty with one of my all time favorite characters- Amanda. We all need to be reminded every now & then that fashion should be fun. That it can be a way of reinvigorating one's self- so go forward & be bold!
Peace. Love. Fashion. M

Friday Night Lights

I will not lie, I love tv. I love the movies. Some people ask with owning a business how I keep up on everything. I thank the invention of the DVR & the insomnia resulting from said business ownership. I love immersing myself in my shows and often say going to the movies is the cheapest therapy for me since I can get outside of my head for 2 hours. Some make me laugh, some make me cry, but I swear Friday Night Lights reaffirms my faith in mankind. I didn't see the movie, but this show is amazing. If you haven't seen it, check it out- it's got something for both you & your honey. It is so real & raw, with characters so flawed, yet fabulous. I tear up every time (not the cheesy way like I do with Ghost Whisper-yes we know-it's time to cross over) but more of like a Grinch moment when I swear I feel my heart growing.
Of the many complex relationships in the show, I have to say I love the marriage between the football coach & principal of the same high school in Dillon, Texas. It is probable the most accurate portrayal of a successful marriage I've ever seen on tv. Just so real, so honest- it just works. I promise- you won't be disappointed. Happy Valentine's!
PS- If it's giggles you want- you have to see the 30 Rock Valentine's episode- laugh out loud funny. Gotta love Tina Fey & her character Liz Lemon!

As I sit here blogging, my brain is literally mush from all of the technological code and work that has been going into our online store peacelovelipgloss. It has been tedious, with countless hours on the phone with tech support ( I kid you not- I think my tech support guy put me on hold & went & had dinner tonight!) Shockingly, we will be up and running ahead of schedule- maybe even by this weekend. Last night when I looked up to see that it was way past midnight, & I stumbled up towards bed- I can honestly say I was filled with pride. Happy Shopping!

Out with the Old!

If you know me, you probably know that I herniated a disk in my back in November. Needless to say at times the pain has turned me into somewhat of a beast. I've been pushing thru the pain while bathing in Tigerbalm & Biofreeze- I know sexy! But my girls need me, so at the end of a long day of making my clients more beautiful, I must admit that when I get home the last thing on my mind is my own beautification- so it has fallen by the way side. You know it's bad when the idea of a pedicure brings not joy to mind, but pain. So I decided I needed some revitalization & had myself a Revitalize Peel by Skin Medica performed by my partner in crime (& fellow esthetician) Dawn. Let me preface this by saying I am the queen of exfoliation. I worship at the alter of AHAs & my assistant, Tabby, has probably wanted to stab me on more than one occasion as I have explained how the skin is like an onion to my clients. What I'm saying is, is that I know what sloughing of dead skin cells entails. Well, we passed sloughing a while ago & I have morphed into a snake shedding its entire skin. As in "I apologize that my chin just fell off & into your coffee." So while I'm not exactly a vision at the moment, I realize that I'm a work in progress. Hey- out with the old and in with the new! (skin that is.) Peace. Love. Lipgloss. M

Clean House

Have you seen this man?! With my New Year's resolutions to live a more organized life, I still struggle with the clutter! I must be honest in that as much as I love 'cleaning up' my clients brows- I hate cleaning! I even stopped getting my coffee at Starbucks to justify getting a housekeeper & it is has been money well spent. However the parents are coming over tomorrow evening to help out after I get a nerve block for my back and here I am scrambling(well with the back, I'm more of a 90 yr. old) to tidy up a bit...As much as I loathe it, these tools of the trade make it much easier & almost bring a "whistle while you work mentality."

The new Dirt Devil Collection is truly a work of art. Having a yellow lab (who should be bald he sheds so much) with hardwood floors is an endless struggle. This is pretty enough to leave out & cordless- perfect for quick pick ups. Dirt Devil $69.99
We have this champagne 'dust buster'/statue at the boutique right at the end of the make-up counter to quickly grab spills- people never realize it's a hand vac until we turn it on. It's got plenty of power! Dirt Devil $44.99

I have the white version at home- it serves as a night light in my living room for when I'm letting the dog out etc... It's genius that someone finally realized if a hand vac needs to be within hands reach- it should be a thing of beauty! Dirt Devil $44.99
The following are 2 honorable mentions that aren't as pretty, but just as great:
*Scotch Fur Fighter is a handle device with disposable comb like pads that brush up hair in quick easy motions!(perfect for the fab chair I blogged about that is now the cat's favorite too) $8.00
*Clorox Toilet Wand System is another brilliant device where you click on the disposable head, then pitch after use. Here's my trick ( since I hate touchy anything germy) I clean my sink first, then a quick touch-up in the shower, then from the toilet to trash- all while never getting my hands dirty! $5 off coupon now at clorox.com Happy Cleaning! Peace. Love. Tidy. M
